July 2014 - keep your brain in gear 'get-togethers'

The usual group & private classes won't be running during July, but some of you have asked if I'll be running anything at all so that you don't forget everything!

The best thing would be for you to get out there & just talk to people!!  ...... and I know most of you do that, but still want a bit of 'guided' practice

So - on Tuesday & Wednesday 9th & 10th July & again on Tuesday & Wednesday 23rd & 24th July I plan to have some 'get togethers' - not classes exactly, but an opportunity to chat in Spanish, maybe play some games & have a drink ;)

These will take place in Mar i Vent between 6:30 & 7:30 pm

It won't matter if there's a mixture of levels - just come either evening - but please let me know if you're coming in advance - for one thing I don't want to sit there like Billy-no-mates if no-one comes, but if there are a lot of you then I'll have to make sure we have lots of room!!

Sorry about the lack of updates recently - I haven't been able to access the blog to actually post anything! All of you have been studying hard & doing your homework though - well, most of you anyway !

This isn't the first time I've been 'locked out' of the blog, so I started to build a website - hadn't got very far when the server crashed & lost everything I had done - which thankfully wasn't much.

I plan to have the website up & running for after Easter now - will post a link here when it's ready!

Xàbia y Marina Salud se unen para que los residentes flotantes se empadronen

El Ayuntamiento de Xàbia y la empresa concesionaria de la sanidad comarcal han decidido unir esfuerzos para que los vecinos que no están empadronados decidan formalizar su inscripción en los registros oficiales y así puedan acceder a tener una tarjeta sanitaria. 

Tanto al Consistorio como a la empresa, le interesa que todos los ciudadanos estén empadronados. El Consistorio recibe más dinero del Estado a cuenta de la Financiación local (que en resumen se calcula por el número de empadronados) y a Marina Salud también, ya que a más vecinos registrados más dinero el transfiere la Generalitat para la prestación del servicio, para atender y ofrecer mejores servicios sanitarios. 

En Xàbia hay registrados 33.000 habitantes, sin embargo, hay una cifra de entre 7.000 y 10.000 ciudadanos que viven y pasan la mayor parte del año entre nosotros, pero que no están empadronados. Hacia ellos se dirigen la concesionaria y el Ayuntamiento. 

Según ha explicado el concejal de Atención al Residente, Oscar Antón, regularizar su acceso a la sanidad puede ser difícil para los llegados del extranjero, muchos de ellos de avanzada edad y con problemas en el idioma. Esta problemática y el gran desconocimiento de sus derechos sanitarios fueron parte de las conclusiones que se extrajeron de las conferencias sobre sanidad para residentes organizadas por el Help Desk, por lo que Antón contactó con Marina Salud para buscar una solución.

El acuerdo ahora alcanzado permite a los recién llegados empezar la tramitación para la SIP en el mismo momento en el que se empadronen en la Oficina de Atención al Ciudadano (OAC), ya que se incluirá un formulario dirigido al hospital y que pone en marcha el alta. Después, ha añadido el regidor, desde Marina Salud contactarán con el interesado en su propio idioma para informarle de sus derechos y prestaciones.

La jefa del área de gestión y orientación al paciente de Marina Salud, Maite López, ha indicado que se trata de un trámite "sencillo y de carácter voluntario", que no comporta ningún coste al perceptor. Servirá para que estén al tanto de los derechos que tienen como residentes en Xàbia y de los programas preventivos de los que pueden beneficiarse como son las campañas de vacunación de la gripe o de detección precoz del cáncer de colon o de mama. López ha señalado que este sistema ya funciona en Calp con buenos resultados.

El edil ha señalado que espera que este nuevo aliciente sirva para impulsar el padrón, ya que a la hora de recibir servicios y trasferencias económicas del Estado, es importante para el municipio que todos sus habitantes estén regularizados. 

La Generalitat paga a Marina Salud por cada vecino de la Marina Alta empadronado unos 670 euros anuales, con ese dinero la empresa financia todo el servicio sanitario de la comarca (el Hospital, los centros de atención primaria, los centros de especialidades.. y los consultorios de verano que sitúa en Dénia y Calp). Por eso, el especial interés que tiene en que se empadrone más gente, así puede requerir más transferencias de dinero a la Generalitat. 

Cifras como esta sitúan a la Comunitat Valenciana entre una de las que menos dinero destina por habitante/año a la Sanidad, lejos de 1.500 euros del País Vasco. En nuestra autonomía la media son de menos de 1.000 euros anuales, en la Marina Alta y las otras comarcas concesionales, son 670 euros/año.

El Ayuntamiento de Xàbia licita los servicios temporales de las playas para los próximos cuatro años

Además de los chiringuitos y las hamacas, se ofrecen cinco zonas de alquiler de material náutico y un área de atracciones acuáticas para niños

Xàbia. Martes, 18 de febrero de 2014. El Ayuntamiento de Xàbia ha aprobado el plan de playas para 2014-2018, un documento que regirá las condiciones para la adjudicación de las instalaciones desmontables de los servicios de temporada de las playas de Xàbia (La Grava, Montañar I, Arenal, Portitxol y Granadella).

La licitación fija las características para las instalaciones temporales como chiringuitos, hamacas y sombrillas e instalaciones náuticas variadas, a lo que este año se suma un nuevo servicio de juegos hinchables para niños en la playa de La Grava. Otra de las novedades es la reducción de seis a cinco chiringuitos del Montañar en favor de una nueva concesión de flyboard (una tabla a propulsión de agua que impulsa al usuario a varios metros de altura) que completa la oferta de alquiler de tablas de surf y piraguas, este último servicio también disponible en la Granadella, Portitxol y Arenal.

El plazo de explotación que ahora se licita es por un periodo de cuatro años, con el interés de que las concesiones sean más atractivas por su mayor posibilidad de negocio y amortización de la inversión. Estas concesiones darán servicio entre el día 15 de mayo y el 30 de septiembre, ambos inclusive, de cada año natural. Un periodo que podrá ampliarse durante 16 días en Semana Santa y 15 días antes y 15 días después de la temporada establecida.

La explotación o aprovechamiento de los servicios de temporada está sometida a la preceptiva autorización de los mismos, por parte del Servicio Provincial de Costas del Ministerio de Agricultura, Alimentación y Medio Ambiente.  La presentación de solicitudes se abrirá una vez se publique el anuncio en el Boletín Oficial de la Provincia (previsto para este jueves) y durante 15 días naturales se  podrán entregar las proposiciones de forma presencial en el Departamento de Servicios del Ayuntamiento de Xàbia (Avda. Amanecer de España nº 2.

La selección de los adjudicatarios será a través de un procedimiento abierto y vinculado a la oferta económicamente más ventajosa.

- El canon abonado a Costas por la ocupación, anualidad de 2013, 4,5 meses/m2, fue:

- Hamacas y sombrillas: 2,47 €/m2

- Quioscos: 6.11€/ m2

- Náuticas: 2.47€/ m2

We moved on to look at putting two verbs together - with the lesson ¿Dónde puedo comprar............?


First of all though, we used the street plan for some more 'position word´ practice & talked about the relationship between what a shop sells, who sells it & the name of the shop.....  pan - panadero - panadería     & so many more!!

we did the ¿cómo voy a.......? lesson - giving & asking for directions

homework is to finish the written exercises & to write directions from anywhere to anywhere (on foot probably - somewhere we might be able to guess!)

We had a quick look at the next lesson, the 'sílaba tónica'. For homework, have another read of the 'rules' & underlie the strong syllable for the words at the bottom of the page - we'll check them next week & have some practice, too

We spent this lesson revising, based around shops, what they sell & who works there, finishing off with a few minutes of verb drills

we moved on to 'Vamos a repasar' for some more practice with IR + a + VERB - you seem to have that fairly well - we'll be using it a lot so you won't forget it!

for homework, revise GUSTAR - we'll be using some other verbs which work the same way next week

Two more classes to go in Cafe Cortado after something like 5 years of Spanish lessons there!

It's Elaine & Dave's last day there tomorrow - they are opening a new venture in a few weeks - & we'll be going with them !

Most of you know where we'll be temporarily until then - any of you who I haven't seen this week, phone me, text me, facebook me, e-mail or whatsapp me & I'll give you directions.


All classes this week (except the new beginner class!) have been about getting your 'Spanish brain' kicked into gear .... easier for some than for others! NO written homework for any of you - just revise some before next week - we'll be going over everything again then - & moving on to new things the following week!

URGENT NOTICE!!

REALLY sorry everyone - most of you know I've been moving this weekend. It has proved to be a much bigger job fitting a 5 bed house into a 3 bed apartment than I ever imagined & at the moment we can't move for boxes - literally!
Add to that that my legs, back & knees are killing me it's clear that if I don't take a few days to sort this out I'll still be surrounded by NEXT 3 kings! So - you get an extra week of no classes - but trust me - I'll be back with a vengeance on the 13th & I promise I'll work you REALLY HARD!

THE NOCHE BEFORE CHRISTMAS

Twas the noche before Christmas and all through the casa, 
Not a creature was stirring ¡Caramba!  ¿Qué pasa?
Los niños were tucked away in their camas,
Some in long bragas, some in pijamas,
Tendiendo the stockings with mucho cuidado
Esperando que Santa would feel obligado
To bring all children, both buenos y malos,
Una bolsa of dulces and other regalos.

Outside in el patio there arose such a grito
That I jumped to my feet like a frightened cabrito.
Corré a la ventana and looked out afuera, 
And quién in the mundo do you think that it era?
Saint Nick in a trineo and a big sombrero rojo
Came dashing along like a crazy bombero.
And pulling his sleigh instead of venados 
Were ocho burros pequeños approaching volados.
I watched as they came and this quaint little hombre 
Was shouting and whistling and calling by nombre:
"Ay Pancho, ay Pepe, ay Cuco, ay Beto, 
   Ay Chato, ay Chopo, Macuco, y Nieto!"
Then standing a pie with his manos on his pecho 
He flew to the top of our very own techo.
With his round little panza like a bowl of jalea,
He struggled to squeeze down our old chimenea,
